Librarians and other library professionals possess specific skills and traits that allow them to succeed. There are various careers available in the field, and you can obtain the higher educational training needed to enter into employment. Librarians and other professionals such as library directors, chief information officers, and information brokers can provide a number of services in the field. These professionals possess the qualities needed to work in a public, school, or government library. Certain characteristics can help you carry out tasks such as helping others find information, preparing and classifying information, supervising library employees, recommending materials to patrons, and collecting and organizing reading materials. Depending on your personal qualities, you may choose to work with children, adults, individuals with disabilities, and young adults by providing these types of services. In order to carry out these tasks, you must be able to utilize your learned knowledge and your individual traits.

Preparing for a career in library science will require that you possess certain characteristics as well as have a personality that is beneficial to the field. Training is available at several levels and will depend on the specific career that is being pursued. Training can last two to six years depending on the individual and your goals. Accredited schools and colleges provide library science degree programs to help you pursue a successful career in the field. If you obtain proper training you will be prepared to enter the workplace with the skills you will need to help others obtain information and experience the world of literature.
